Spectra – Technical Cofounder / Founding Platform Engineer

What is Spectra?

Spectra is building the data infra + observability + workflow layer for physical operations.

Think: “Google Analytics + Datadog + Zapier for physical ops” – for cold chain, manufacturing, energy, OEMs, and field ops.
We ingest events from machines/devices/ERP/CRM/IT systems, normalize them, and give ops teams deep visibility + automation.

What You’ll Own

• Architecture & Backend

  • Design and implement the core architecture:

    • Event ingestion (APIs, simple protocol gateway initially).

    • Core data model (assets, events, alerts, workflows).

    • Data infra: Postgres + warehouse (BigQuery/Snowflake) + streaming (Kafka/Pub/Sub or similar).

  • Build internal + external APIs that power Spectra dashboards, alerts, workflows.

• Data & Observability Layer

  • Define how events are tagged, stored, queried (metrics, logs, traces).

  • Implement first dashboards and query endpoints for:

    • Asset health

    • Alerts

    • Workflow runs

• AI Integration (Pragmatic)

  • Integrate one LLM/embedding provider:

    • Semantic search over events/incidents/SOPs.

    • Basic “explain this incident” and “summarize last 24h” features.

  • Work with ML/AI engineer (or contractor) to plug anomaly detection & simple forecasting.

• DevEx & Infra

  • Set up repos, CI/CD, environments, monitoring.

  • Choose and manage cloud (GCP/AWS/etc.).

You Might Be a Fit If

• 6–10+ years in backend / data / platform engineering.

• Have designed and shipped at least one substantial SaaS or data platform.

• Strong with one stack (Node/TypeScript or Python/Go) + SQL (Postgres/MySQL).

• Comfortable with:

  • Cloud (GCP/AWS/Azure),

  • Queues/streams,

  • Building stable, well-documented APIs.

• Ideally have touched:

  • Data infra / analytics / observability (Datadog/Grafana-like systems), or

  • IoT / physical-world data (but this is a bonus).

We are in the process of meeting the right person who can be with us for a longer duration, has good understanding of how tech-solutions work in manufacturing, production, processing, EPC and physical ops world. Hands on and also someone who likes to build useful solutions for businesses.
