We’re Treez — a fast-growing Series C startup tackling one of the most complex challenges in fintech: cannabis payments. We process millions of dollars in payments revenue, and we’re building a custom payments stack that’s becoming a core piece of our company’s IP. We’re looking to hire a strong backend engineer (SDE 2) who can contribute to this next phase of growth and reliability.

About the Role

As an SDE 2 in the Treez Payments team, you’ll work on the backend of our core payments systems — taking ownership of features from design to production. You’ll partner with senior engineers and cross-functional teams to build scalable systems and improve developer experience. The ideal candidate brings strong fundamentals, curiosity for how systems work under the hood, and a proactive approach to shipping high-quality code.

What You’ll Do

* Build and maintain services in our core payments platform, including APIs, provider integrations, and SDKs.
* Work on system performance — identifying and resolving DB bottlenecks, scaling challenges, and latency issues.
* Contribute to internal developer tooling that accelerates integration, deployment, and monitoring.
* Write well-tested, production-grade code and participate in peer reviews.
* Debug and resolve complex production issues with support from the team.
* Collaborate with product, QA, and design teams to understand requirements and deliver iteratively.
* Continuously learn and grow — picking up new technologies, patterns, and domain expertise.

You’ll thrive in this role if you

* Have a strong understanding of data structures, system design, and API design principles.
* Have experience working in a microservices-based architecture and understanding of messaging queues.
* Are comfortable writing automated tests and working with CI/CD pipelines.
* Are willing to own end-to-end delivery and production support for the systems you build.
* Have strong communication skills, with a bias for action and collaboration.
* Communicate clearly, ask good questions, and care about team and code quality.

Bonus Points For

* Experience in the payments domain, fintech, or transaction-heavy applications.
* Exposure to developer tooling, internal platforms, or test automation infrastructure.
