About the Opportunity

Opportunity Description

Join SkilledUp Life as a UI/UX Designer Volunteer, committing 3 hours per day (Monday–Friday) for 60 days to help improve our global volunteer-based talent platform for tech startups. Following the existing designs and UI kit, create UI designs for new functionality and features. Optimise the existing UI designs to improve the UX, leading to greater CX across the platform. We seek both junior and senior UI/UX designers. Junior designers can progress to senior level, and senior designers can progress to Design Team Leader in a second volunteer term, based on performance and contribution.

Company Needs

• We use Figma free account for design, GitHub Projects for design tasks and Slack for internal collaboration.
• Proficiency with Figma.
• Understanding of UI/UX design principles and best practices.
• Strong visual design skills with attention to detail and consistency.
• Ability to follow existing design styles, UI kits and design principles without clashing with your own preferences.
• Ability to communicate design decisions and incorporate feedback.
• Ability to follow tickets on GitHub Projects.
• Familiarity with responsive design and mobile-first principles.

What you will do

Volunteer Activities

• Create user flows and UI designs for new features and functionality following existing design styles, UI kits and principles.
• Design responsive interfaces that work across desktop, tablet and mobile.
• Conduct usability testing sessions with team mates.
• Collaborate with developers on design implementation and handoff.
• Maintain and contribute to the design system and component library.
• Participate in design critiques and incorporate feedback iteratively.
• Respond to design tasks through GitHub Projects.

• Operate remotely within a multinational team with team members from Canada to China. If you join as a junior UI/UX designer, you can progress to Senior UI/UX designer in the second volunteer term. If you join as a Senior UI/UX designer, you can progress to Sub Team Leader
• UI/UX designer managing a team of up to 3 UI/UX designers. The experience and skills gained through us will no doubt help you towards securing a paid job in the Job market. One of our past UI/UX designers secured a job with Lenovo post volunteering.
